Branxton: Gateway to Hunter Valley's Wine Country
The township of Branxton is situated on the New England Highway, between Maitland and Singleton, in the picturesque Hunter Valley.
With a history dating back to the early 1800s, Branxton slowly developed as the Hunter Valley area was explored and settled further inland. Several historical buildings in town stand as a reminder of its early history including the Branxton Inn (built in 1862) and several churches.
Branxton is perfectly situated for exploring the wineries and rural countryside of the Hunter Valley. Internationally recognised as a premium wine producing district, the Hunter Valley features more than 100 wineries. The Lower Hunter is home to many of the older and larger wineries based around Cessnock and Pokolbin, while the Upper Hunter is dotted with newer vineyards around Denman and bordered by national parks.
